EXCURSIONS FROM PAPHOS AND POLIS

TOUR 1: VISIT TO MOUNTAIN WATERFALLS AND KYKKOS MONASTRY

(Includes: Kouklia, Mandria winery, Milomeri waterfalls, Platres, Troodos Mountains, Kykkos Monastery)
Leaving Pahos we will get on the main road and from kouklia we will drive towards Troodos mountains. Our first stop will be a local winery at Mandria wine village. There you will have the opportunity to learn all about the production of wines and have the chance to taste local wine from the barrels. Second stop will be the Milomeri waterfalls at Platres village. After Milomeri we will be driving towards the mountains of Troodos the largest mountain in Cyprus. There are many famous mountain resorts, Byzantine monasteries and churches on mountain peaks, and nestling in its valleys and picturesque mountains are villages clinging to terraced hill slopes. Finally we will visit Kykkos Monastery which is the largest and most famous monastery in Cyprus. The monastery is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and is home to one of the three surviving icons painted by the Apostle Luke. Founded in AD 1100 by the Byzantine emperor Alexios Komnenos, Kykkos Monastery is ornately decorated and covered in a silver gilt, enclosed in a tortoiseshell shrine. It is also famous for its museum, located within the monastery grounds, which houses an impressive collection of icons, woodcarvings and manuscripts, and other Cypriot antiquities.

TOUR 2: WEST APHRODITE TOUR AT AKAMAS PENINSULA

(Includes: Polis (Latchi Harbour), Afrodite Baths, Akamas peninsula, Chrisoroyiatissa Monastery)
Leaving the city of Paphos we will be driving towards Polis and arrive at our first destination, the Latchi Harbour. Next Stop is the Afrodite Baths! This beauty spot is situated past the fishing harbour of Latsi towards the tip of the Akamas peninsula. A natural pool grotto surrounded in greenery, the site lies at the end of a small nature trail. As its name suggests, the grotto is said to be where the Goddess of Love used to bathe. Our last stop is set in beautiful surroundings, the Monastery of Chrysorrogiatissa in Pafos (Paphos) is dedicated to ‘Our Lady of the Golden Pomegranate’. It was established in 1152 by monk Ignatios who, according to popular belief, found a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary off the shore of Pafos (Paphos) that had been thrown into the sea in Asia Minor during the iconoclastic controversy and carried by the waves to Cyprus.

TOUR 3: FROM WEST TO THE CAPITAL

(Includes: Curium Theater, Kolossi Castle, Aphridite Birthplace (Petra tou Romiou), Limassol old Town, Limassol Castle, Limassol Marina, Nicosia old Town, Archbishop’s Palace, Ledra Street, Laiki Geitonia, Byzantine Museum, Library of the Archbishopric, Folk Art Museum , National Struggle Museum)
Leaving Paphos behind and going to our first stop, Curium ancient theatre. One of the most spectacular archaeological sites on the island. Our second destination will be the Kolossi Castle which is situated in the village of Kolossi. It was built in the 15th century on the ruins of a former fortress dated to the beginning of the 13th century. We will vist Petra Tou Romiou, which is said to be Aphrodite’s (Goddess of Love) birthplace. Our next stop will be the old port of Limassol. Limassol Marina, old Castle and city centre are 10 minutes walking distance apart! Leaving Limassol we will be heading towards Nicosia! We will visit Ledras street. Then you can walk to Laiki Geitonia and choose from one of the traditional taverns for lunch. You will have the chance to taste traditional Cypriot food and Mediterranean cuisine. You can see the Archbishop’s Palace, the official residence and office of the archbishop of Cyprus. Although the Archbishop’s Palace is not open to the public; the Byzantine Museum, Library of the Archbishopric, Folk Art Museum and the National Struggle Museum located on its grounds are open to the public. Last visit will be Agios Ioannis Cathedral within the old city walls. Is built on the site of the 14th century chapel of the Benedictine Abbey of Agios Ioannis the Evangelist of Bibi.
